Our History

In 1998 a group of concerned citizens from Greenville and Spartanburg Counties convened to address one of the most pressing issues of our time: father absence. After assessing the needs of low-income fathers and developing a holistic plan to address them, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina favorably approved the Greenville's community partnership's request for funding in 1999 under the umbrella of Phillis Wheatley.

In 2000 the Spartanburg community partnership was funded under the umbrella of the Spartanburg Salvation Army. By 2002, the projects were flourishing and growing and established a standalone 501c3. To enhance services, maximize resources and strengthen coordination of services and partnerships, the programs merged to form the Upstate Fatherhood Coalition.
